Catholic Charities to host benefit in Barrington Hills

A virtual home-based museum, the Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills boasts world famous collections of antique music, arcade and gambling machines.

The home is filled with an 8,000-pipe theater organ, Tiffany lamps, an ice-cream parlor, 200 music boxes, phonographs and 65 coin-operated pianos.

The Carousel Building houses an 1890 restored European carousel, complete with carved Hubner horses, an 1881 Grant Locomotive, other engines, and a street clock that stands 20 feet tall.

Although museum-like in quality, the estate is not open to the general public. However, at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 28, the estate will open its private doors for the 23rd Annual Hearts for Homeless Families “The 8th Wonder of the World Tour” dinner and auction.

2012’s premier social event, the evening will benefit Catholic Charities Northwest Regional Services and the New Hope Apartments Program, an innovative supportive housing program designed to help end the cycle of homelessness for local families.

“The event is what I refer to as a win-win because guests experience an adventurous evening while helping the homeless at the same time,” said Mary Insprucker, Catholic Charities’ Northwest Regional Director.

Auction items include a unique chef table dinner at the Grand Victoria Casino prepared by Executive Chef Glenn Keenan; an exceptional way to experience the Chicago Air and Water show aboard a private yacht; a private cocktail party for 50 at the Sanfilippo Estate; and an on-air opportunity with WGN’s Garry Meier.

Cost of a ticket, which includes tour, valet parking, hors d’oeuvres, open bar, elegant dinner and auctions emceed by award-winning WGN radio host Garry Meier, is $175 per person or $1,650 for a table of 10. To purchase tickets, visit www.catholiccharities.net/hearts or call (847) 376-2118.

“Come for a fun or romantic evening. Come and treat your corporate clients. Come and celebrate an unforgettable anniversary or Mother’s Day. Whatever you do, come; you won’t be sorry,” Insprucker said.
