Carol Stream library seeks two trustees
Carol Stream Public Library is looking for two people to serve on its board of trustees after an announcement this week that a five-year incumbent is stepping down.
Tom Arends, who was elected as trustee in 2007 and re-elected in 2011, is moving to Chicago to be closer to his law practice.
In February, 26-year board member Rob Douglas, who most recently served as board president, resigned when he was appointed as an associate judge in DuPage County.
That leaves five board members who will select the two replacements.
Library Director Ann Kennedy has been accepting resumes and letters of intent from those interested in serving out the remainder of Douglas’ term. Those who have applied also will be considered for the seat left open by Arends’ departure, Kennedy said.
A total of 12 people have applied and the board is conducting interviews with the candidates in closed session. On Wednesday, the board interviewed the first four — Tim Hickey, Jim Austgen, Ken Walther and Susan Galle. The others will be interviewed next Wednesday and on April 24, when trustees are expected to make their selections.
