Malsom provides the offense for Wheeling
Hersey’s girls water polo team did a nice job of stopping Mid-Suburban East leader Wheeling from scoring — with one very notable exception.
Wildcats senior Leah Malsom scored all seven of her team’s goals Thursday in a 7-4 victory which kept Wheeling (9-2 overall, 7-0 MSL East) in the driver’s seat in divisional play.
Four players had 1 goal each for Hersey (11-10, 2-5).
Fremd 10, Schaumburg 5: The MSL West leaders maintained their perfect run in the division as Lauren Zambelli (3 goals) and Amy Wickert (2) led the way for the Vikings (16-2, 7-0).
Kristy Bessler scored twice for Schaumburg (7-9, 3-4), which saw goalkeeper Jessica Sumsky make 19 saves.
Prospect 8, Elk Grove 4: Jessica Cavaiani scored 3 goals in the third quarter and finished with a game-high 6 as the visiting Knights (5-4, 3-3) pulled away in the second half for an MSL East win.
Kathryn Noonan had three of the goals for Elk Grove (3-11, 2-4).
Conant 16, Hoffman Estates 5: Kristi Burke had 4 goals and Jessica Southern had 3 as the Cougars (11-7, 3-4) climbed into a tie for third place with Schaumburg in the MSL West.
Barrington 14, Palatine 4: Sam Gavars (4 goals), Kate Luedtke (3) and Kelly Meckert (3) provided plenty of firepower as the host Fillies (13-1, 6-1) kept a firm grip on second place in the MSL West.
