Buffalo Grove students tour ancient cities for spring break

Twenty-one Buffalo Grove High School juniors and seniors, enrolled in World Language and History classes, spent their spring break touring Athens and Rome. They experienced the history that they had studied.

In Athens, visits to ancient architectural ruins and geographical sites included the Acropolis, Corinth, the Epidaurus Theater and the location of the Battle of Salamis, where the Greeks turned back the Persians.

While in Rome, they visited the Colosseum and the adjoining Forum on Palatine Hill, the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. The students also explored the crypts beneath the Basilica on the exclusive Scavi Tour. Other highlights include Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii.

“It was amazing to see, firsthand, places so rich with meaning and significance to the world we live in today,” said Robert Lindgren, trip organizer and the division head of the World Languages/Social Science/English Language Learners Division.
