Questions remain on Danada complaint
The story regarding the Danada Equestrian Center leaves many unanswered questions. The complaint from the 34 volunteers was placed in November 2011, yet the animals and stables were not evaluated by a vet until March 2012.
Did the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County need more than three months to clean up the stables and improve the overall conditions of the horses?
When a complaint is not acted upon immediately, especially when animals are in jeopardy, it smacks of a dismissive attitude toward the volunteers. The fact that the forest district did not have a prompt response and action plan in November speaks volumes. We applaud the volunteers who had the courage and perseverance to carry their concerns for more than a three-month period to help the horses.
There should never be an issue of inadequate funds. Danada Farms should have the best vet and dental care available. Shame on DuPage County Forest Preserve District and Wheaton for having such little regard and appreciation for the gift of Danada Equestrian Center. The taxpayers have a right to expect that their tax monies are spent in a non-wasteful and appropriate manner. Neglecting or denying vet and dental care to 25 horses does not meet this criteria.
