Abad leads Lake Zurich victory

Vanessa Abad scored 3 goals and added an assist, as Lake Zurich’s girls soccer team opened the Pepsi Showdown by scoring 4 goals in the second half en route to a 5-2 win over host Glenbrook South on Tuesday night.

Meaghan Gelinas tallied the Bears’ other two goals, while Nicole Rasiarmos had 2 assists.

The score was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Lake Zurich (3-2) was led defensively by Maisie Cox, Katie McCullough, Courtney Kehrmann, Catalina Abad and Stacey Wilton. Keeper Eleanor Daleske made 4 saves.

Stevenson 2, St. Ignatius 0: At the Vernon Hills Athletic Complex, Katie Krejsa scored both goals in the Pepsi Showdown game.

Hanna Levi had an assist.

Lakes 2, Antioch 0: Jenna Baker scored her sixth goal of the season, and Leah Baker got a goal too, as the visiting Eagles won in North Suburban Prairie action.

Lakes (3-2-1) got an assist from Sarina Umlauf and 6 saves from goalie Cara Jones, who earned her third shutout.

McHenry 2, Grayslake North 1: Katie Lahera scored the Knights’ only goal off an assist from freshman Sam Villwock.

McHenry scored twice in the second half, as Grayslake North fell to 5-2-1.

Cary-Grove 4, Grayslake Central 0: Korey Kronforst scored twice for the Trojans, who led 1-0 at halftime.

Loyola 4, Warren 0: Amanda Macuiba had 5 saves for the Blue Devils.
