Janda, Grayslake Central win twice
Tayler Janda pitched 14 innings of shutout softball Saturday.
The senior’s efforts led Grayslake Central to a doubleheader sweep of nonconference visitor Waukegan.
Janda’s 5-hitter and 2-for-3 performance at the plate keyed a 4-0 victory in Game 1. She then allowed just 3 hits in the second game, as the Rams captured a 5-0 decision.
Claire Brennan also had 2 hits for Grayslake Central in the opener, while Cally Hayes and Sarah Kuligowski were each 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Brennan (2-for-2) and Jamie Brew doubled.
Janda struck out a pair and walked one.
In Game 2, Janda had 4 strikeouts and no walks. Brennan and Brittney Brown (2 RBI) both went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Kati Brew had a double for the Rams.
Lakes 6, Larkin 1: Montana Mang, Kaela Bryant and Taylor Dishinger all delivered huge hits, and Dishinger went the distance in the circle for the Eagles in the nonconference game.
Larkin took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Mang’s RBI single in the bottom of the inning pulled Lakes (5-2) even. Dishinger’s run-scoring single in the second put the Eagles in front for good.
Lakes’ 3-run third featured Bryant’s doubled, which scored Mang, and Jamie Dykstra’s triple, which plated Bryant.
Mang, Bryant, Dishinger (2 RBI) and Lindsay Meverden (double) had 2 hits apiece.
Lake Zurich 5, Buffalo Grove 4: Christina Sandstedt’s walk-off double in the seventh capped a 2-run rally and lifted the Bears in the nonconference game.
Sandstedt finished 1-for-3 with a walk and 2 RBI. Carlee Parson and Ashley Pettinger also doubled for Lake Zurich (5-6).
Kasey Roe was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Bears, and Shannon McPeek went the distance to earn the win.
Hersey sweeps Stevenson: The host Huskies won 7-4 and 12-10, dropping the Patriots to 0-9.
Ali Castriano was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Stevenson in Game 2. Lexi Yonkovic went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Kat Trotter doubled.
