Fire temporarily shutters Mount Prospect restaurant

Cuisine of India in Mount Prospect is temporarily closed due to a kitchen fire that started around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Mount Prospect firefighters responded to the restaurant, located 2348 S. Elmhurst Road, and saw fire and smoke coming from the roof.

The blaze was mostly contained to the kitchen hood duct work and extinguished in about 40 minutes with assistance from Arlington Heights, Des Plaines and Elk Grove Township.

It caused an estimated $50,000 in damage. Mount Prospect fire officials consider the fire accidental and said it originated in the kitchen exhaust duct.

They said commercial kitchen hoods and ducts are required to be cleaned every six months to prevent fire.

A representative of Cuisine of India's sister restaurant in Naperville expects the eatery to reopen in three to four weeks.
