No DuPage benefit in latest on O’Hare

I have been reading articles related to Rahm Emanuel’s comments on the O’Hare Modernization Project and feel I have to comment. It should be no surprise to anyone that in spite of Bensenville Mayor Frank Soto and former DuPage County Board Chairman Robert Schillerstrom’s capitulation to the city of Chicago for short term monetary gains and promises of “benefits” for the western suburbs that for the city of Chicago and its new “Little General” mayor it will be business as usual.

That business, of course, is moving to the back burner the promised western terminal and access to O’Hare airport, and in spite of wavering support for further expansion by United and American Airlines, the latter of which is in bankruptcy reorganization, the current state of the economy, and that the major airlines decreasing the number of flights at O’Hare, still moving forward with their ill conceived runway construction plans.

Your paper pointed out alternatives to what the money spent on the recent Mega Millions lottery could have bought, but this is a drop in the bucket to what the money being wasted on the O’Hare project could provide for the same causes you listed. The bottom line is new faces but the same old story. While the mayor of Chicago and big business may claim benefits from this project, I can assure you that DuPage County, my neighbors and I surely will not.
