Wildlife refuge plan open house

An open house regarding the proposed Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Road, Ringwood. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is exploring the possibility of establishing a new national wildlife refuge in southeast Wisconsin and northeast Illinois. Planners have completed an environmental assessment with four alternatives for up to 11,200 acres. Planning staff will be available and public comment will be accepted. A second open house is planned for 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brookwood Middle School in Genoa City, Wis. Visit www.fws.gov.
