Mount Prospect, other organizations to observe Earth Hour

The village of Mount Prospect will participate in the Earth Hour campaign from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, by turning off all nonessential lighting. Sponsored by the conservation organization World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour is a global climate change initiative which calls on individuals, businesses and communities around the world to turn off their lights for that hour. All essential lighting such as streetlights, traffic signals and lighting for public safety will remain on. Famous landmarks around the world participated last year such as Wrigley Field, the Eiffel Tower and Sydney Opera House. Other area organizations turning off power include Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 and the village of Buffalo Grove. For more information, visit earthhour.org.
