VH wins twice in ’Bama; Grayslake Central splits

Vernon Hills’ softball team ended its Spring Break trip to Alabama in good fashion.

Jenn Claussen’s 2-hitter led the Cougars to a 2-0 win over Montgomery Catholic in Orange Beach, Ala., Wednesday.

Anya Mollenhauer (RBI) and Kristina Kliver (double) each had 2 hits to key the offense, as Vernon Hills improved to 4-4 overall with its second win of the day.

Carly Alm, Claussen and Megan Meline had 2 hits apiece, and Jordyn Comitor (single) drove in a pair of runs, leading the Cougars to a 4-2 win over Trinity.

The Cougars trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third, then scored all four of their runs.

Grayslake Central splits: In Orlando, Fla., the Rams rebounded from an 8-1 loss to Canal Winchester in Game 1 of a doubleheader between the two teams to win the second game 8-1.

Claire Brennan went 3-for-5 and Theresa Curtis was 3-for-4 for Grayslake Central. Jamie Brew had 2 hits and scored twice, and Caitlin Flary ripped a double.
