Dunkin’ Donuts, Baskin Robbins planned for old Schaumburg fire station site
Schaumburg officials this week authorized the sale of the village’s former Fire Station 1 site at 1459 W. Schaumburg Road for $110,000, clearing the way for the long vacant site to become a Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin Robbins store.
A prior attempt to sell the old fire station site fell through when it was found to have insufficient space for another restaurant’s planned drive-through window, Mayor Al Larson said.
The former fire station lasted 40 years before it was replaced in 2006 by a new facility in front of the village’s police station. At the time, fire officials said building a new fire station was necessary to accommodate the growing department, while the new location, just a half mile east of the former station, would mean no noticeable impact on response times.
The old Station 1 first was owned by the Roselle Fire Protection District before being sold in 1966 to Schaumburg’s new volunteer force for $1. The village of Schaumburg started its own full-time department in 1970.
The new station was part of a $4.95 million village effort that included renovations at stations 2 and 3.
