Streamwood High presents timeless ‘West Side Story’ in April

Submitted by U-46

Streamwood High School will put on the Leonard Bernstein-Stephen Sondheim musical “West Side Story.”

Come visit neighborhood city streets and shadowy alleyways to experience the tumultuous lives of the Jets and Sharks as they fight for turf and the right to be in America. You’ll want to join in the gym dance as they dance to American and Latin music. The music gives way to desire and romance for Tony, a Jet, and Maria, sister of Shark leader Bernardo. As two cultures collide, violence is ignited between the two street gangs leading to catastrophic events in the silhouetted shadows of an expressway underpass.

Performances will be Wednesday, April 4; Thursday, April 5; Thursday, April 12; Friday, April 13; and two shows on Saturday, April 14. All shows begin at 7 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on April 14. Admission for U-46 students is $5; adults are $8 before April 4 and $10 at the door.

Advanced tickets can be ordered by contacting Barb Thomas at barbarathomas@u-46.org or (630) 213-5500, ext. 8639.

Tickets also can be ordered at sites.google.com/site/shswss2012/ and clicking the link for online ticket sales.
