Cell phone ban must include hands-free

Kudos to our state representatives on protecting us from something that the insurance companies consider an insignificant statistic, that holding a cell phone is a greater cause of distracted driving than any other source.

I will admit that I, too, get upset with people who are more concerned with their phone conversation than driving safely. But it does seem as if our lawmakers have forgotten one of the first things we learned when we started to drive, be aware of your surroundings and drive defensively.

If the they are going to pass a law restricting how cell phones are used while driving then they should ban hands free use. This way when the drivers around me are distracted by a phone conversation the sight of them holding the phone to their ear will at least offer me the opportunity to be a better defensive driver.
