Lakes brings the lumber to Harvard
Lakes’ baseball team pounded out 16 hits en route to a 12-5 win over host Harvard on Tuesday.
The Eagles’ top three hitters in their batting order led the way, going 11-for-15 with 6 runs scored and 5 RBI. Jake Brown was 4-for-5 with 2 runs and an RBI. Nick Traska also went 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two, and Chris Hoffman had a 3-for-4 day with a triple, 2 RBI and 2 runs.
Lakes (2-1), which won for the second straight day, led 4-2 after one inning and 9-2 after two.
Danny Jackson earned the win.
Barrington 6, Vernon Hills 3: In a tightly contested game, the visiting Broncos used timely hitting to beat the Cougars.
Barrington jumped ahead 3-0 after three innings. The Cougars clawed back, scoring 3 runs in the fifth to tie the score.
The Broncos went back in front with a 3-run sixth. Vernon Hills had men reach safely in the sixth and seventh but were unable to score. John Foley had a quality day at the plate for Vernon Hills in the loss, going 3-for-4.
Johnsburg 13, Round Lake 3: Juan Abascal had a single, walk, 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored for the Panthers in their road loss.
Anthony Gutierrez added a single, walk and an RBI.
Lake Zurich 5, Prairie Ridge 4: Wyatt Spector, a 6-foot-3 senior left-hander, pitched 51⁄3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs, striking out five and walking four to earn his first win.
“He was outstanding against a hard-hitting Prairie Ridge squad,” Bears coach Gary Simon said.
Mike Lutz notched the save, striking out the side in the sixth. The game was called due to darkness after six innings.
Jake Guilianelli came up with a clutch two-out 2-run double in the fifth for Lake Zurich (3-0). Jacob LaRue sparkled defensively at third base.
“He was ‘Mr. D.’ with three web gems,” Simon said.
Tanner Kiser went 2-for-3 for Lake Zurich.
