Stevenson powers past Evanston

Katie Krejsa and Kara Ballard each scored twice, leading Stevenson’s girls soccer team to a 5-1 win over host Evanston on Tuesday night.

Jenna Weinstein also scored for the Patriots, who led 3-0 at halftime. Haley Green assisted on a pair of goals, and Ali Olsen and Hannah Levi also had assists.

New Trier 2, Lake Zurich 1: Danielle Tassi had the Bears’ lone goal off an assist from Meaghan Gelinas.

Elle Daleste made 6 saves in goal for Lake Zurich (1-2).

Grayslake Central 2, Antioch 1: On Monday night, senior Emma Shepard scored and assisted on Alex Wilson’s goal, as the Rams won their season opener.

Kajal Chokshi got her first varsity win in net.

“Our girls played pretty well for their first game of the season,” coach Mike McCaulou said. “We know we have a lot of areas to improve upon, but we were happy with the ball movement and effort.”

Grayslake North 7, Zion-Benton 0: On Monday night, the Knights (2-0) got goals from sophomore Kelly Meyer, senior Lyz Steinhoff, senior Katie McGrath, freshman Sam Villwock, senior Andrea Lamb, senior Katie Lahera and senior Melissa Hohensee.

Sophomore Chelsea Olson, McGrath and freshman Maggie Fish had assists. Senior Brooke Sauer earned the shutout.

“(Monday night) was a great step in the direction we hope to continue to go,” coach Adam DeCaluwe said. “The team continues to show just how hard they want to work for each other. We played exactly how we are looking to play, right from the start.”

Libertyville 3, McHenry 0: Katie McAuliffe scored twice in the Wildcats’ season opener Monday night. Ali Urbanski also scored, while Sydney Mudd and Britt Clarke had assists.

Natalee Algozino and Elaine Sundberg combined on the shutout.
