Talk to kids about teen pregnancy

We are seniors at Elk Grove High School, and as part of a group project in our Humanities class, we are researching about teen pregnancy. Our group wants to encourage parents to talk to their children about teen pregnancy. Our main goal is to reduce teen pregnancy in our community by increasing awareness.

If parents were to give teenagers a detailed conversation about pregnancy and the negative effects that could happen, then teens may be less likely to have sexual intercourse at such a young age. Having a healthy relationship between the parent and child is important, and can help a child realize the people who would be affected by their decisions. Making them aware of life and the impact of bad decisions could give teenagers a chance to make better decisions.

Another topic for parents to talk about with their children is the financial realities of becoming pregnant at a young age. A parent should talk to their child about how the baby is constantly growing and can become a financial burden. Explain to your child that most teenagers do not have the luxury of a parents’ support. Both a child and teen and suffer when falling under a financial crisis.

Our main goal is to increase awareness among parents and teens about teen pregnancy. We would be grateful if you could publish this and perhaps help reduce teen pregnancy and make life better for these people.
