Blame biology and end the debate

We have been reading about many issues in the news regarding gay marriage, adoption of children by gays, children who believe they were born the wrong sex and about President Obama’s health care plan and the controversy regarding contraception. Although these are all important issues to discuss, I think supporters of these measures who are focusing their blame on the Catholic Church are misguided. It is really biology they should be upset with, and here’s why.

Nature dictated a long time ago how man and woman operate and what our bodies were designed to do. Only a man and a woman can have a child, or, at the very base level, only sperm can fertilize an egg to create a life. Obviously, two men or two women engaging in a sexual relationship cannot procreate. It’s not because of some arcane law or religion; it’s biology.

The same can be said of contraception. When a woman’s body conceives a child, biology is at work once again. It didn’t give the woman a choice in the matter — it just decided on its own the woman would become pregnant. Darn that pesky biology!

Obviously, I am being sarcastic on a level, but the point is that we’re fighting against nature with our bodies. This is a battle that we are certain to lose because the absoluteness of biology cannot be undone based on feelings, nor should it. It’s time to stop fooling ourselves about who we are and start embracing reality and science.
