Group to explore idioms with dance concert

Midwest Dance Collective, in residency at Barrington Artz Center and under the direction of Ellen Werksman, will present its annual concert: “Your Guess is as Good as Mine” at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main St, Barrington.

Tickets are $10 for students, $8 for seniors and are available at the door.

This year's concert was designed as an original concept-theme inspired by the popular, yet misused idiom.

“This innovative idea was a challenge and yet so much fun to work with,” said Director Ellen Werksman. “In addition to researching thousands of idioms, it was creatively ambitious to design these idioms into choreography that was artistic yet entertaining.”

The concert features a guest appearance by Barrington High School Orchesis dancers in a collaborative selection: “Marching to the Beat of a Different Drummer,” as well as choreography by Zachary Heller from Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Debra Nanni from Chicago Dance Medium, Sarah Ford from Inaside Chicago Dance, as well as resident choreographers Alyssa Heintz and Heather Goldman.

MDC is unlike other area dance ensembles in that participants are from: Barrington, Palatine, Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights, Rockford, Chicago, Tower Lakes, Elgin, and Sleepy Hollow.

The MDC experience allows the dancer to continue studies at their home studio or school while offering enrichment training in a professional company environment.
