Privatization the topic of League of Women Voters meeting in Arlington Hts.
“Privatization and the Yellow Pages Argument” will be addressed by Celeste Meiffren, field director for Illinois PIRG (Illinois Public Interest Research Group) 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at the Arlington Heights Historical Society, 110 W. Fremont St. This program is free and the community is welcome.
The Yellow Pages Argument says that if a service can be found in the Yellow Pages, government should not be doing it. This is part of the movement to pass legislation mandating that all government services be classified as either ‘inherently governmental” or “commercial.”
League of Women Voters of Arlington Heights-Mount Prospect-Buffalo Grove Area, a nonpartisan political organization, is participating in the league’s national study on privatization, the selling and leasing of government services or assets. The league will review the impact on the community of transfers of such services as education and prisons.
