Hawks’ coverage just not the same

OK, let’s talk:

If Lloyd Bentsen were still around, and a Blackhawks fan, and a follower of the Daily Herald, he might say something like this after seeing my big melon alongside Blackhawks stories of late:

“I’ve read Tim Sassone. I like Tim Sassone. You sir are no Tim Sassone.”

And I would totally agree.

One hundred percent.

Just keeping the seat warm for the best in the business.

Hurry back, Tim.

Dynamic duo:

After attending the premiere of the film “Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita — Monuments to Excellence” Wednesday night at Navy Pier, I’ve come to a couple of conclusions:

A. Stan Mikita and Bobby Hull are absolutely having the times of their lives.

B. These guys should go on the road as a comedy duo with Bobby as the boisterous, fun-loving guy and Stan as the dry-as-the-Sahara straight man.

They’d make a killing.

Shhh:

No one mention the idea of Peyton Manning to the Vikings.

Please.

BTW:

Manning just oozes class, doesn’t he?

Let those Cats in, man:

Besides the great storylines that would accompany their selection, the tournament committee should put Northwestern in just for the entertainment value of their games.

How Bill Carmody’s hair isn’t completely gray is beyond me.

Little known fact:

There is not a softer-talking Division I coach than Carmody.

Seriously.

Great news:

Glitz and glamor from the evening aside, the highlight of premiere night at Navy Pier was when Stan Mikita, after a bout with oral cancer, reported he had just received a clean bill of health at his most recent checkup.

Now up … Ted Kluszewski:

The old joke about “Gilligan’s Island” was something along the lines that the Professor can make a nuclear reactor out of two coconuts and a piece of string but he can’t fix a three-foot hole in a boat!

And now the baseball version:

We can shoot crystal-clear images of objects millions of miles away in space, yet our nightly spring training highlights come from the same stationary camera above home plate that’s been in use since 1956!

But:

I’m not complaining. I find it refreshingly old school.

What the what:

I’m pretty sure this year won’t be the year for the Cubs.

But after listening to a lot of Theo-speak about how the team will always be building for the future I’m just not sure that any year will ever actually be the year.

What?

Be prepared:

The summer of Trilby Lundberg may be upon us.

Bet on the 9:

First they show live coverage of the Arlington Million and now they announce plans to do the same for the Illinois Derby from Hawthorne Race Course.

Gotta like the way the folks at WGN-TV are thinking.

Random question:

What’s the name of the band that plays the “Lottery Drawing” song?

He said it:

“We actually fought before so I kind of know his weaknesses ... just don’t get punched.”
