Palatine players aid those in need

Palatine Youth Baseball/Softball (PYB/S) players and families spent an evening working to help feed families in need.

The PYB/S 11U Vipers Travel Baseball Team packed food at the Feed My Starving Children Schaumburg facility Monday, Jan. 30. Using a teamwork system, they, along with other volunteers at the site, packed 68 boxes of MannaPack Rice meals, which will be sent to Tajikistan.

The boxes contain 14,688 meals and will feed 40 children for a year.

Feed My Starving Children is a Christian, nonprofit hunger relief organization founded in 1987. The food mixture was formulated by Minnesota food scientists to address the needs of children suffering from malnourishment.

Volunteers package 100 percent of the food. Humanitarian relief organizations partner with FMSC to deliver the food to children in nearly 70 countries around the world. MannaPack Rice is distributed to children in various community settings: orphanages, schools, clinics, refugee camps, nutrition programs, and more.

The PYB/S Palatine Vipers team is managed by Marty Josten and coached by Steve Hajdukovic, Scott Cermak, Ross Giusti and Tom Morel.

Players are: Ethan Kelly, Ben Heuertz, Tommy Cermak, Brent Swenson, Brian Morel, Connor Giusti, Will Josten, Dean Ganas, Jason Hajdukovic, Justin Spiekermann, Ryan Gilski, Wes Squeo and Jake Anderson.
