Kaneland, teachers have tentative contract

Kaneland teachers and the District 302 school board have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract.

The district and the Kaneland Education Association announced the deal Tuesday. The pact was reached Feb. 24. Besides teachers, it includes other certified staff, such as psychologists, nurses, librarians, reading specialists and social workers.

No details will be released until the school board and the union membership ratify it. The board is scheduled to vote on the agreement Monday night.

The current contract is due to expire this summer.

In 2008, a three-year contract was signed, after several sessions with a federal mediator. Three board members voted against the contract.

In April 2010, the union agreed to defer scheduled raises for a year, in exchange for a one-year contract extension and to avoid laying off 110 certified employees.
