Writer got too personal
This is a response to Mr. Ed Piotrowski’s comments regarding my letter “Just ask a retired teacher ...”
While I don’t know why he feels he has the right to publish anyone else’s personal financial data, he is purposely misleading the reader.
My final year salary included my severance pay and extra duty pay. My pension is not based on that, but rather my annual salary rate, which was $79,862, even though it is none of his business.
I will give him the point about salary lane increments for graduate studies. I do have two master’s degrees for which I worked very hard evenings and weekends. Many teachers don’t have the extra degrees and credentials. I did learn something, though. I finally figured out where reporters and opinion writers get those inflated figures they say teachers make in retirement.
Also, annual “seldom mentioned raises” are part of those “across-the-board raises” from negotiated contracts, not separate from them.
