Biggert for District 11 Congress, GOP
Over the course of seven terms in Congress, Republican Judy Biggert of Hinsdale has established a solid reputation as a hardworking and collaborative conservative, a steadfast voice for supporting business while controlling federal spending. In recent years, she has chaired a major revision of the nation’s flood insurance program and points with pride to the compromises required to produce legislation that won overwhelming bipartisan support. She has also become one of the House’s most outspoken experts on the effort to keep Asian carp out of the Great Lakes. Her opponent for the March 20 GOP primary, John A. “Jack” Cunningham, is an accomplished local politician, an eight-year alderman in Aurora and for the past 10 years, Kane County clerk. Cunningham, too, boasts a long record of working with diverse interests in order to achieve important political goals, and he has heartfelt positions on the importance of getting federal spending under control. He is not nearly as well-versed as Biggert, however, in the issues facing the nation or the district. Biggert has been a consistent force for her party in Washington for nearly 14 years, and Cunningham doesn’t make a strong case that Republicans or the district would be better off with him in her place. We endorse Biggert.
