Huntley Knights of Columbus treat alter servers to appreciation breakfast
Submitted by St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus Council 11666
The St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus Council 11666 treated more than 50 altar servers to breakfast at the Parish Ministry Center on Dec. 18. Msgr. Steve Knox, the pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, addressed the group and thanked them for all their service to the parish community. A kitchen crew consisting of 16 Knights and volunteers served a breakfast consisting of bacon, eggs, hash brown potatoes and pancakes.
This is an annual event that started more than 20 years ago by two members of St. Mary’s Parish, Rocco Favia and Wayne Donahue, who treated the altar servers to breakfast as a way of recognizing their service to the parish. When the St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus Council 11666 was formed in November 1995, Favia and Donahue became charter members of the newly formed council. The council voted to continue the tradition and it now remains one of the annual activities of the Knights, to recognize the service of our youth to the parish.
The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic family fraternal service organization with nearly 1.8 million members in more than 14,000 local councils. Last year, Knights donated 70 million volunteer hours and $167 million in charitable and benevolent causes, sponsoring projects to benefit their church, councils, communities, families and youth.
