Des Plaines pastor on ‘Millionaire’ show airing Monday

Des Plaines resident Daryl Merrill will be the contestant on the “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” show airing at 4 p.m. Monday on WGN.

The show is hosted by Emmy award-winning Meredith Vieira.

Merrill, 42, is a pastor at Christian Life Church in Mount Prospect. His wife, Leslie, who talked him into auditioning for the show, attended the taping in New York City, according to a news release.

The couple have three sons: Luke, 14, Matthew, 11, and Mark, 8.

During the taping, Merrill told show producers that his children have plans for when he wins $1 million — they each would like to have $100,000 to spend on electronics and video games and then donate a portion to charity.

Merrill plans to donate a portion of his winnings to the charity Mission Possible, which helps rescue street children around the world. He often volunteers to raise funds for the organization, the news release said.
