West Chicago Launches Mobile Website
West Chicago, Illinois: March 1, 2012 - Like it or not, multi-tasking has become an Olympic-like sport. Walk into a dentist's office, an airport lounge or a coffee house, and it's hard not to notice the number of people transacting business online, browsing the web for products or services, checking email or playing a favorite game on a handheld communication device. Increasingly, these behaviors have become mainstream - a daily part of life in the 21st Century, along with the expectation, if not demand, for instant connectivity regardless of access to a stationary computer.
The launch of a mobile website in West Chicago marks a significant upgrade to the City's current communication efforts. It joins the mix of multiple channels which the City uses to engage a community with diverse communication preferences; website, newsletter, E-News, Twitter, LED signage, YouTube, and coming soon, City podcasts.
As the number of smart phone and tablet users regularly accessing the worldwide web is growing dramatically, the need to provide a mobile version of the City's website becomes necessary to ensure connectivity with these residents, businesses and visitors, and remain competitive in an economy which has become more and more dependent on technology.
The new site has been designed to provide the most meaningful content, based on current traffic patterns of the main website, in a mobile-friendly format. Its streamlined look and function provides an abridged version of the visually-rich content that remains the standard of the main website, and translates well to the small screens of mobile telephones and I-products.
