News on Hawks’ injury front not all bad

It sure looks like Jonanthan Toews’ streak of games missed will jump from five to eight straight once the Blackhawks finish the three-game road trip they embark on beginning Friday night in Ottawa.

Coach Joel Quenneville said Toews (upper body/possible concussion) will not travel with the team to Ottawa and was uncertain if the captain would be on hand in either Detroit or St. Louis as well.

“Hope so, but we’ll see,” Quenneville said.

As for Toews current status? Same old, same old.

“About the same,” Quenneville said. “He’s getting the proper attention and he’s working with our trainers and doing his routine and he’s progressing.”

It wasn’t all glum news on the injury front, however. Defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson (upper body/possible concussion), who has missed 10 of the last 11 games, will travel with the team to Ottawa and may be back in the lineup for the final two legs of the trip.

“Hammer felt really good (Thursday), so he’s going to come on the trip,” Quenneville said. “He’s out for (Friday), but we hope that he’ll be playing soon.”
