Funeral set for Dist. 95 teacher who died last week

A funeral will be held Friday for a Sarah Adams Elementary School teacher who died last week.

The service for Christine M. DiVincenzo, 43, of Hawthorn Woods, will begin at noon at Ahlgrim's Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.

Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and again from 10 a.m. to noon Friday.

DiVincenzo died at home in her sleep on Feb. 24. Her death may have been related to a health issue, the Lake County coroner's office said.

A Lake Zurich native, DiVincenzo graduated from Lake Zurich High School and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from National Louis University.

DiVincenzo was a District 95 teacher for nearly 20 years. Most recently, she had been a fifth-grade teacher at Sarah Adams Elementary.

“Christine was a well-thought-of professional,” District 95 Superintendent Mike Egan said Tuesday. “She was very student centered and loved her students.”

Teaching ran in DiVincenzo's family. Her father, Michael, had been a sixth-grade teacher at Lake Zurich Junior High.

Christine DiVincenzo was described Tuesday as a generous person with a magnetic personality. She also was a beagle lover who had two dogs, Bagel and Maddie.

Survivors include her husband, Greg Sebring; a son, Michael Lee; sisters Diane Salas and Janet DiVincenzo; and a brother, Chuck DiVincenzo.

Donations may be made to the Michael L. Sebring College Fund through Bank of America.
