Charges unlikely in Elk Grove Village crash

Charges are unlikely against the driver of a vehicle involved in a crash that killed an Arlington Heights man late Wednesday, police said.

Christopher Bogucki, 18, was in the roadway near the intersection of Busse Road and Commerce Drive in Elk Grove Village when he was struck by a Ford Fusion driven by a 47-year-old Schaumburg resident at 10:11 p.m., authorities said.

The Elk Grove Village Police Traffic Section is still investigating the cause of the crash.

“Preliminary indications are that this appears to be a tragic accident,” Sgt. Matthew FioRito said Friday. “The case is still open pending toxicology.”

The Ford was traveling northbound Busse Road and in the left turn lane approaching Oakton when it struck the pedestrian, authorities said.

Elk Grove Village paramedics pronounced Bogucki dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Bogucki was formerly a student at John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights. He left the school as a sophomore, Principal Tina Cantrell said. Counselors are available for students who knew Bogucki and may need help coping with their grief, she said.
