Elk Grove speech team takes third at regionals

The Elk Grove High School Individual Events Speech Team placed third out of 11 schools at the Illinois High School Association Regional Tournament held at Elk Grove High School on Feb. 4.
These E.G.H.S. students placed in the final round of competition: Nelly Sampang (sixth place in Oratorical Declamation), Celine Hall (fifth place in Original Oratory), Marissa Cozzi (fifth place in Prose Reading), Allen Fearing (fifth place in Original Comedy), Grace Allen (fifth place in Special Occasion Speaking), and Cheryl Victuelles (fifth place in Radio Speaking).
The following students placed in the final round of competition and advanced to the sectional tournament, held at Downers Grove South High School on Feb. 11: Katherine Hoth (fourth place in Poetry Reading), Marissa Cozzi (fourth place in Humorous Interpretation), Grace Allen and Dustin Beelow (third place in Dramatic Duet Acting), Mary Lynn Riopel (second place in Extemporaneous Speaking), Christina Erbacci and Allen Fearing (second place in Humorous Duet Acting), Brent Wolff (second place in Informative Speaking), and Katie Kozak (second place in Dramatic Interpretation).
Elk Grove's entry in Performance in the Round placed second overall and advanced to the IHSA Sectional. Those E.G.H.S. sectional qualifiers are Abbie Gail Lim, Amanda Geier, Arman Rahman, Jay Baccay, Kelli Steinbuck, Maeve Garvin, Natalie Brown, Sarah Hartness, Stephanie Medina, and Zoe Tingas.
“Every E.G.H.S. speech event qualified for the final round, and 19 students qualified for the sectional meet,” said head coach Chuck Cavazos,
