Police still investigating shooting in Mount Prospect Wednesday evening

Mount Prospect Police are still investigating the reason why a 20-year-old man was shot in the back on a street corner early Wednesday evening, according to police.

Mount Prospect Police Officer Greg Sill said officers responded to a the corner of South Busse Road near Willow Lane at about 6:38 p.m. Wednesday with reports that a man was laying on the ground, yelling for help just south of Willow Lane.

Officers arrived on the scene and found the Mount Prospect resident suffering from gunshot wounds to the back, Sill said.

He was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge by the Mount Prospect Fire Department for treatment of the nonlife threatening bullet wounds, Sill said. His condition Thursday morning was unknown, officials said.

Sill said the shooting remains under investigation, but it has been indicated that it wasn’t a random shooting. Police said there is no credible information that suggests citizens residing in the immediate area have cause for concern.

A portion of Busse Road was shut down for more than two hours about two blocks south of Golf Road, as police investigated the shooting, which occurred at about 6:30 p.m.

Residents of the area were shocked by the shooting in the neighborhood, which they described as a quiet area despite a piece of the victim’s clothing laying in the street while police taped off a large portion of the intersection.

“I heard a couple of noises it sounded like a ‘thump, thump,’” said John Loucas, who lives across the street from the corner of the shooting. “I said, ‘were those shots? No it couldn’t be. There’s no way.’”

He added, “I just never thought this would happen around here.”

Sill said the Mount Prospect Police Department continues to investigate the shooting and following up on all leads.
