Minor injury in three-vehicle Winfield crash
A stretch of the northbound lanes of Winfield Road was shut down for about an hour Tuesday after a three-vehicle crash, according to fire officials.
A vehicle in the northbound lanes of Winfield struck another vehicle that had run out of gas around 3:30 p.m. near the intersection with Purnell Road, officials said.
The driver who had run out of gas was parked in the roadway without any hazard lights on and the second driver did not realize the vehicle had stopped, said Winfield Fire District Lt. Pete Daly.
The first vehicle then veered into the southbound lanes and struck the side of a third vehicle, which damaged the mirror, Daly said.
A child from one of the vehicles was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, Daly said.
The southbound lanes of Winfield were shut down to one lane while emergency responders investigated.
All lanes were reopened as of about 4:30 p.m., Daly said.
