Artists invited to enter Lake County contest
Submitted by Chris Geiselhart
The Lake County Heritage Farm Foundation, in cooperation with the Lake County Discovery Museum, has issued a call for entries from artists ages 18 and older from Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana.
Building on the very successful 2010 show, it is projected to have well in excess of the 220-plus entries submitted. The topic of “The Farm: Images from the Heartland 2012” is farm scenes: buildings, equipment, animals, farm fields, crops, and people.
The art will be juried, and prizes will be awarded. Work of winning artists will be displayed for 10 weeks in the White Room at the Discovery Museum, Lakewood Forest Preserve, Aug. 25 through Nov. 4.
Any original two-dimensional medium reproducible by photographic process is acceptable. Computer-generated or digital art must be labeled as such. Original photography is also encouraged; however, giclees are not acceptable. Work will be judged on originality of concept, technical expertise and emotional impact.
The Opening Reception will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26.
Each of the winning artists will be eligible for Awards of Excellence in the amount of $300, $200 and $100 for first, second and third place positions. A Special Award of $250 will be given for a Lake County image. Well-known artist and teacher Didier Nolet, author and photographer Nancy Schumm, and gallery owner Joy Horwich will act as jurors for the exhibit.
