Roaring fire damages Algonquin house

No one was injured in a large fire that spread from an attached garage in Algonquin to the rest of the house, causing extensive damage Monday night.

Firefighters responded to the two-story house on the 1100 block of Spring Hill Drive at about 8:50 p.m. and remained on the scene as of 10 p.m. battling stubborn flames shooting through the roof.

Officials said a neighbor noticed the fire and called the fire department.

No one was injured in the fire, officials said.

The entire home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene, officials said, and the fire was upgraded to a 2-alarm blaze moments later.

The fire was officially declared out by 9:57, officials said, but not before nearly destroying the home.

Officials said the home was under construction prior to the blaze, and its unclear if working smoke detectors were present.

The incident is still under investigation, and fire officials are still trying to determine an overall damage amount.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District received assistance from fire departments in Carpentersville, Huntley, Fox River Grove, Cary, West Dundee, Barrington, Rutland Dundee, East Dundee, Marengo, Nunda, and Lakewood. The Salvation Army and Red Cross also provided support at the scene, officials said.
