Vernon Hills facility offers free osteoporosis screenings
Rosalind Franklin University Health System staff will provide free osteoporosis education and screenings for women from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at Central Lake YMCA, 700 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills.
This will precede the regularly scheduled visit of RFUHS’s mobile health unit there that day.
The program will provide education, risk assessment and bone density screenings for osteoporosis. There will be a group educational session covering risk factors and what can be done to help prevent the morbidity and mortality associated with osteoporosis.
The RFUHS staff will identify women at risk and provide bone density screenings to those at risk. Women identified as moderate or high risk on the bone mineral density (BMD) screen will then be referred to a health-care provider for treatment.
Women considered to be at risk are encouraged to participate. They include:
Ÿ All women older than 65.
Ÿ All postmenopausal women younger than 65 with one or more risk factors, such as reaching menopause before the age of 45.
Space is limited and registration is required. Call the Central Lake Y at (847) 367-6797.
Following this program from 4 to 6:30 p.m., RFUHS’s Community Care Connection will provide free blood pressure, blood sugar/diabetes and cholesterol screenings, plus BMI (body mass index) and waist measurements to persons of all ages.
Those with questions about healthy eating can get answers from the registered nurse onboard. Registration for the Community Care Connection screenings, which are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, will begin around 3:30 p.m.
