U-46 School News for Week of Feb. 20

Elgin High School

Thursday through Saturday, the drama department will present "Singin' in the Rain" at 7 p.m. There is also a matinee on Saturday at 12 p.m. Ticket prices are $8 per adult and $6 per student and can be purchased in advance at the treasurer's office or by phone at (847)888-5100, ext. 5103.

Larkin High School

On Tuesday, the Visual and Performing Arts Academy (VPAA) will perform their Senior Recital at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

Streamwood High School

On Thursday, the annual Multi-Cultural Talent Show will be presented at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are $5 each. Approximately 10 groups will be performing; the top two will be invited to the district Talent Fest in March.

Abbott Middle School

On Thursday, band students from the school will join with feeder schools Harriet Gifford, Lowrie, Otter Creek and Washington to present a Band Concert in the Abbott gym at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door. Admission is $1 per student, $2 per adult and $6 per family. Senior citizens are free.

Eastview Middle School

On Tuesday, the beginning band students (Bartlett, Centennial, Hawk Hollow, Prairieview, Spring Trail, and Sycamore Trails elementary schools) will perform with the 7th grade band to present a concert at Bartlett High School at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, the intermediate band students (Bartlett, Centennial, Hawk Hollow, Prairieview, Spring Trail, and Sycamore Trails elementary schools) will combine with the 8th grade band to present a concert at Bartlett High School at 7 p.m.

Kenyon Woods Middle School

On Thursday, the world famous Harlem Wizards will put on a show with their slams, world-class tricks, precision teamwork and theatrical style humor while playing a game against local school teachers, administrators, and community members including South Elgin police and firefighters. This will be the Wizards only appearance in the Fox Valley area. Prior to the show the Wizards will host an all-school assembly where they will reinforce KWMS' "Respect Others, Act Responsibly" (ROAR) theme, as well as, encourage students to always do their best academically. To further build a sense of community, KWMS is donating a percentage of the profits to the Chicagoland Dog Rescue. KWMS' Student Government will also conduct a blanket and towel drive to further help the needy animals of the Chicagoland Dog Rescue.

Ticket info: Advance tickets are $10 and available for purchase at KWMS, or online @ www.harlemwizards.com; tickets are $12 at the door. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

Creekside Elementary

On Thursday, students in grades 1-3 will present a choral performance at Larkin High School in the auditorium at 6:30 p.m. Students in grades 4-6 will perform at 7:30 p.m.

Spring Trail Elementary

On Saturday at 7 p.m., Parents' Night Out will take place at Brunswick Zone in Carol Stream. This is the 4th annual Candlelight Bowl fundraiser. The cost is $25 per person and includes dinner, bowling and shoe rental for adults 21 and over. Registration form is available at www.springtrailpto.org.

On Tuesday at 7 p.m., the U-46 Middle School Orchestra Festival will be presented at the Hemmens Auditorium.

Vision 2012 U-46 Art Show

Vision 2012 Art Show featuring U-46 high school students runs now through March 8. It is located at First Community Bank at 50 Tyler Creek Plaza at the intersection of McLean Blvd. and Big Timber Rd. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Fridays from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon.
