Growing cynical about pols’ promises

Well, let me see if I understand how this works. A politician runs for office by telling the people he will get done what we the people want and need, and if he wins the election he will keep his promise.

So I believe 80 percent of the people want the politician to pay for his own retirement and insurance out of his paycheck not ours. So politicians, keep your promise to the people and stop taking our money and start using your money like you have made us do and pay your own way.

Well, I guess I don’t understand why politicians will not do what the people want and need like they promise, and why we the people vote them in office, we would be better off just taking someone off the street and telling them they are a politician: Go do whatever you want and don’t forget to take care of yourself and do not do anything for the people that put you in office.
