Cops: Two charged in ambush beating of Metea classmate

Two Metea Valley High School students have been charged and a third is under investigation after a 17-year-old classmate was ambushed and beaten in the school parking lot, Aurora police confirmed Monday.

Lt. Pete Inda said the beating occurred about 2:55 p.m. Feb. 3 as school let out. He said the victim, an upperclassman from Aurora, was in the parking lot when a group of students pulled up in two vehicles and attacked him.

“It was pretty one-sided,” Inda said. “It was four or five against one.”

Police said the victim was punched in the head and kicked in the body. Afterward, he went to school officials, who summoned police. He was released from a hospital after being treated for injuries to the head and face, authorities said.

The beating followed a “verbal altercation” involving the victim earlier in the day, Inda said. Specifics of the incident remained under investigation.

Charged with mob action and aggravated battery were two 15-year-old sophomores from Aurora, according to police. Inda said authorities also are pursuing charges against a 17-year-old student from Naperville and working to determine who else may have been involved.

The parties were not named because they are juveniles.

Metea Valley Principal Jim Schmid said the altercation led to disciplinary action.

“We began our investigation as soon as we were informed of this unfortunate situation,” he said by email Monday. “As a result, disciplinary consequences were determined based on the student handbook.”
