DUI charge filed in Schaumburg crash
A 60-year-old Schaumburg man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and disobeying a traffic control device after causing a crash on Saturday night in Schaumburg, authorities said.
Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said a Suzuki SUV carrying a family of five westbound on Schaumburg Road was attempting to turn onto southbound Summit Road at 7:15 p.m. Saturday when it was hit in the right rear by a Nissan Pathfinder.
The impact cause the Suzuki to flip onto its side, Nebl said, while the driver of the second vehicle drove away from the scene.
The Pathfinder was found about three blocks away parked and running with Ned Brakus, 60, still sitting behind the wheel. Brakus was taken into custody, Nebl said.
A 33-year-old woman in the Suzuki was taken to the hospital with minor, nonlife threatening injuries, Nebl said. The crash remains under investigation, he added.
