CYT Kane County brings “Annie Jr.” to the Hemmens
Nearly 100 children will have roles in Christian Youth Theater of Kane County's production of “Annie Jr.” at the Hemmens this weekend.
The show opened Thursday. Remaining performances are 2 and 6 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11-12. Tickets — available at the door — are $14 and $11 for students and seniors.
One of the most beloved musicals of all time and winner of seven Tony awards, “Annie” is the story of a spunky orphan whose journey to find her parents takes her from the home of a billionaire bachelor to the president's office.
Featuring such favorites as “Hard Knock Life,” “Tomorrow” and “Maybe,” “Annie Jr.” is a high energy musical event for the whole family.
Director Christie Follett has spent seven weekends rehearsing with the cast of 98. Participants hail from all over the Fox Valley including Elgin and South Elgin, Sleepy Hollow, St. Charles, Dundee Township, Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Huntley and Hampshire.
“Working with such a large cast has been challenging to organize, but well worth it,” Follett said. “Each kid is so unique and talented.”
When asked what she thought would be audiences' favorite part of the show, Follett responded, “I think audiences will enjoy singing along with their favorite classic “Annie” songs.
“Who doesn't love watching the enthusiasm of the orphans in ‘Hard Knock Life' or the sweetness of Annie singing ‘Tomorrow?'”
