Teagen’s fight inspires Pennies for Patients

This year marks not only the 10th anniversary of Teagen Reid’s successful bone marrow transplant, it’s the 10th year her mother has led an effort benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Reid runs the annual Pennies for Patients drive at Plum Grove Junior High in Rolling Meadows, where she teaches seventh-grade history. The three-week campaign will take place in April.

Plum Grove has raised more than $93,000 over the past nine years, putting it among the most successful schools to participate in the nationwide fundraiser.

“I’m sure we’ll break the $100,000 mark this year,” Maura Reid said. “The staff and students are amazing.”
