Drama ‘New York’ opens Feb. 2 at Hersey
The John Hersey High School Theater Department will present “New York” by David Rimmer, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 2-4, in the school’s Black Box Theater.
“New York” takes place in a psychiatrist’s office as 15 people seek therapy to help cope with survivor’s guilt or post-traumatic stress disorder in the wake of Sept. 11, 2001.
The play’s major theme is human resilience, which is relatable to any traumatic situation. When first produced, the play was called “brilliantly written ... a thought-provoking event avoiding the sentimental and capturing realistic portraits of how we’re all dealing with (9/11) ... a touching exploration of the effects of Sept. 11th on the lives of average New Yorkers.”
Cast members are seniors Joe Farrell, Maddie Liesz, Erin Horne, Liz Soto and Jakub Goldas; juniors Katie Busse, Jeremy Germain, Rachel Campbell, Madeline Brown, Ben Richardson, Steven Kellerhals, and Maria Zoia; sophomores Rose Katz and Bri Bent; and freshman Will Bruce.
The play is codirected by Lara Becker and Matt Michelin, with technical direction by Bryan Back and costumes coordinated by Linda Scheufler. Tia Lindholm and Elle Richardson are assistant directors.
Tickets are $7. Reserve them in advance by calling Joann Langley at (847) 718-4882.
