Giants' Umenyiora fined $20,000 for missing Super Bowl interview
Osi Umenyiora of the New York Giants was fined $20,000 by the National Football League for missing today's mandatory media availability ahead of the Super Bowl.
NFL spokesman Randall Liu confirmed Umenyiora's fine in an email. Giants spokesman DeAndre Phillips said in an email that he had no immediate explanation for why Umenyiora failed to participate in the 45-minute session at the team's hotel.
He said Umenyiora, a defensive end who has nine sacks in nine games this season, was in team meetings following the event.
The Giants play the New England Patriots in the National Football League's championship game on Feb. 5 in Indianapolis.
