Streamwood man helps rescue driver in river
KENOSHA, Wis. — A 90-year-old man is OK after his car plunged into the Des Plaines River in Kenosha County, thanks to quick action by some good Samaritans.
Richard Weiss lost control of his car on Highway 142 and landed in the river Wednesday afternoon. Several men who had been behind the car saw the crash and sprang into action.
Thirty-seven-year-old Greg Drozdziak of Streamwood told WGTD Radio he and another man jumped on the roof of the nearly submerged vehicle but couldn’t open a door. They eventually retrieved a hammer from a toolbox they had to break the sunroof of the car and pull Weiss out.
The Kenosha County sheriff’s department says the driver was dazed but not seriously hurt.
