Streamwood’s Brown selects Bemidji State

Streamwood senior Stephanie Brown signed a National Letter of Intent Wednesday to join the women’s soccer team at Division II Bemidji State University in Minnesota.

The 5-foot Brown, who plays club soccer for the Fox Valley Strikers, is a two-time Daily Herald All-Area selection. A forward, she scored 4 goals and had 5 assists for the Sabres last season after missing much of the 2010 season with a sprained MCL.

She was also an all-Upstate Eight selection in 2009 and 2011 and the Streamwood team MVP both of those seasons, as well as an academic all-conference selection in 2011.

“Stephanie is a very technical player and is very good on the ball,” said Bemidji State coach Jim Stone in a statement. “She is a smart, versatile player that has played at a high level. She could play up top, she could play in the midfield or she could play at outside back giving us the ability to plug her in at a lot of different positions.”

Brown is also a two-time Streamwood letter winner in cross country.

Bemidji State completed the 2011 campaign with an overall record of 8-8-3, while it finished in a three-way tie for sixth place in the final Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference standings with a 6-4-2 mark in league play.
