Addison Rotary Club donates $400 to help feed needy seniors

The Rotary Club of Addison donated $400 to co-sponsor one needy senior in the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Senior Citizen Project. This money was raised from their annual raffle and through member donations. The Rotary Club of Addison has been assisting the Humanitarian Service Project since 1991, helping to serve impoverished children, seniors and families in DuPage and Kane counties.

Since the Rotary Club of Addison's foundation in 1963, it has strived towards giving back to the Addison community through numerous service projects and fundraisers, such as food sales, dinner dances, and special events. “The Rotary Club of Addison has been a steadfast supporter of many local charities. We here at the Humanitarian Service Project are so grateful for all they have done for us throughout the years,” says Karole Kettering, founder of the organization. “They truly exemplify what it means to be a humanitarian.”

The funds raised by the Rotary will be used for HSP's Senior Citizen Project which was established in 1982. This program provides a needy senior with 90 lbs of groceries each month and is delivered directly to their doorstep by volunteers. Each month seniors receive over 15 selections of fresh fruits and vegetables, 7 frozen meats, 5 grocery bags of non-perishables, 2 bags of paper products, containing items such as toilet paper, tissue, and personal care items. A sponsorship for a senior is only $70 a month, $35 a month for co-sponsorships, and also includes monthly gifts from a secret-pal (a community donor), gifts at Christmas time and a monthly meal delivered by volunteers.

The Rotary Club of Addison meets each Wednesday at the Alta Villa Banquets. For additional information on the Rotary Club of Addison please visit www.addisonrotary.com

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP has been given the highest Four Star rating by Charity Navigator for the sixth consecutive year. HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,616 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce, and another 170 families received a turkey and groceries for a Christmas Dinner. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
