Candle sparks minor fire in Mount Prospect apartment
An unattended candle sparked a Monday morning fire inside a Mount Prospect apartment that caused about $20,000 in damage, according to fire officials.
A neighbor of the third floor apartment at 1880 Palm Drive heard a smoke alarm at about 8:54 a.m. and called 911, according to the Mount Prospect fire department.
Firefighters contained the minor blaze to the kitchen area, and brought the fire under control in approximately 5 minutes, officials said.
Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Des Plaines and Elk Grove Township assisted the Mount Prospect department, and no injuries were reported.
“A quick response by a neighbor and the fire department led to this fire being relatively minor in nature,” said Fire Chief John Malcolm in a news release.
The fire appears to be accidental, according to fire officials.
